What Went Well and What Didn't

What I think went well in our campaign was that our products were very suited to our target audience. The colour schemes were clearly designed for teenage girls, the images were appropriate to the topic yet fun and the fonts were not overly serious and look nice on the products. I also think our website went quite well as it look very nice and was clearly related to our posters.

I think it was well related to the target audience because after our second presentation we got some feedback saying that we could have made our plans more related to the target audience. We defiantly took this advice on board and I am very glad we did as it made our final products much better and more suited for the target audience. I think the website turned out well as everyone in the group had an input as to how it would look and what it would contain. We all sat down together and decided how we were going to design it and I think this really paid off as we are all very happy with it.

I think that overall, working in a team was a strength. In my group we are all friends so we all felt comfortable sharing ideas and discussing how we were going to go about the task given. Although being in a group with friends is good in that aspect, it also had a negative side as we often found ourselves getting distracted and talking to much which was not good as at one point we got quite behind with our work and had to work very hard to catch up to ensure that our 2nd presentation was ready in time to be shown. I think that was the only problem we had with time management, not getting distracted. As a group, I think our presentational style was good. We had PowerPoints and notes prepared in advanced so our presentations were organised and clearly got our message across. However some of the feedback we got in the first presentation was that we could have rearranged the order of our slides to make it more logical so we defiantly thought about this more while preparing for the second presentation.


Something that was less successful on our campaign was the box at the bottom of our poster. I don’t really like this part as it looks quite untidy and unprofessional. I think this was due to the fact that we were quite short on time towards the end of the production stage which came down to poor time management. So maybe this could have been better if we had planned our timing more carefully. Another thing that was less successful was that on some of the website pages, there is a lot of writing with no visual aids which makes the page look quite boring and pay put the target audience off wanting to read the information. To improve this we could have taken more pictures that we could have included on the page and maybe condensed the writing a bit more so that it was to point and easier to read as teenagers don’t like reading big pages of writing. 

The organisation of the production process

We organised our group well, we split the work equally between each person as we made 3 posters and 3 webpages each to make the required 9 posters and 9 pages on our website. I think we could have been a bit more organised with getting our work done as were finishing up quite close to deadlines. We planned our work with many mind maps, so we knew exactly what each person had to do. We also made drafts of our posters to find what looked right and what didn't and also to see what our target audience would find appealing. The planning influenced our production as from our drafts, we could see what looked nice and how to arrange our content of the posters and website. It also help us to find out what pictures we needed to take to include on them.

During the last stages of planning our product we made a last minute decision to change the target audience of our campaign from both genders to just girls. We thought this would be a good idea as it is much easier to design the products to one gender as we found that it is quite hard to choose a colour scheme that is appropriate to both genders. I am glad we made the decision to change the target audience to just girls as I think it made our campaign much better and more suited to the new target audience.


I think we worked to time, however we did have to rush a bit once it came towards our final deadline, although not massively. We did get a bit distracted occasionally during lessons which may have caused us to be a bit behind. However we did catch up and get all of our work done on time and to a good standard. 

Consideration of rules and regulations


Representation

Girls that are the same age as my target audience feature of my posters. In the pictures they are holding signs up with shorts phrases discouraging copyright theft. In the pictures they are all smiling and looking happy. This suggests that they are on board with the campaign and believe that it is something that has to be stopped. The fact that the girls are the same age as the target audience means that girls who are looking at the posters may feel influenced by them to join the campaign as typically, girls always like to be doing the same as other girls. So if they are looking happy supporting the campaign, viewers will also want to be part of the campaign.

I used a photo on my website that I took where you can see my laptop on an illegal movie sharing website. In the back ground you can see my room which looks like a normal teenage girl’s room. When people see this photo they may be able to relate to it as they have done it before. I put quite a dark filter on the photo. This suggests that using sites such as mega share are wrong and that people shouldn’t use them. So when people see the photo of a laptop on a bad website in a relatable place with a dark filter, they may feel almost guilty that they are guilty of watching illegally downloaded movies which hopefully will discourage them from doing it again.


I also used a photo which I took while I was at concert. The photo looks very cool as you can see the outline of people’s arms in the air dancing, having fun and you can also see singer on the stage waving out to the crowd. Since are target audience are interested in music this photo would catch their attention. The photo has a kind of faded filter on it which suggests that in the future, concerts like this may no longer occur if copyright theft continues to be a problem. This will make the viewer think twice about illegally downloading music as they wouldn’t want to miss out on the fun people are having in the photo.

Target Audience

The target audience for my campaign is teenage girls aged 15-17. These girls would be middle to lower class. The audience my campaign is aimed at would be quite girly girls as our colour scheme is multi-coloured but mainly bright pink, therefor they would be quite into ‘girly’ things such as shopping, since our posters are hung around shopping centres. Our target audience would be interested in music and films as well as things such as celebrities and make-up. The lifestyle of our target audience would be students who regularly illegally download music and films as the aim of our campaign is to discourage them from doing this.

We chose this as our target audience since the brief wanted our campaign to be aimed at young people and we thought 15-17 would be a good age as they are quite mature and also copyright theft is a big problem amongst people of this age. We also chose this target audience since my group and I are of a similar age to this so we know what girls aged 15-17 would be interested in and we would know the best ways to target and get through to these girls, which we decided was online, through social media and our website.

I made an audience profile which shows exactly who our target audience is, there interests and lifestyle. This way it is clear who we are targeting our campaign at and I have been able to refer back to it throughout the project for help while making decisions such as what sort of things we should put on our social media and website. Putting on things that the target audience will be interested in will make it much more likely that they will notice and follow our campaign.

The target audience would want this campaign to be interesting and engaging. They would also want it to be quite visual with short but informative pieces of writing. They would want to be like this as if the campaign is quite visual, with lots of images, then they would be more likely to have a look where as if it was a lot of writing they would probably just move on since reading it would be ‘too much effort’. The target audience would also want the campaign products to look quite colourful and bright as this way it looks more interesting to look at and also more eye catching.

We got some audience feedback during the planning stages of our campaign that said that we should make our campaign more suited to the target audience. As a group we were unsure of how to do this to fit the needs of both boys and girls, so we decided it would be best to narrow our target audience down even further and make it just for girls as the more precise the target audience is, the more effective the products will be in reaching out to people. Listening to this feedback was a very good idea as I think it made our campaign much more effective.


We included our audience’s feedback to help improve our campaign by looking at the results achieved from a survey we conducted. We found out how aware our audience were on the copyright laws which we used to decipher how much we should focus on these throughout our products.

How the research has been used to fulfil the brief and meet the needs of the client

The brief asks for a ‘crowd sourced’ campaign which raises awareness about who copyright heroes are and what they believe in. They wanted us to ‘think beyond the obvious’ in our media products to make them creative and engaging as ‘Adverts are not the only way of getting our message out there’.

My research looked into the issue in much detail. I found out a lot of information about copyright infringement and why it is a problem. I also looked into what intellectual property is. In order to tackle the problem I had to find out why the problem was so big, so I researched why and I found out via google that it’s such a widespread issue as its very difficult to catch people infringing the copyright laws as file sharing between friends is just so easy. I also looked into this by doing questionnaires to find out peoples own experience’s and views on copyright.

My product and planning have matched the brief as I have create two different types of media that are unique, engaging and informative. I have created my products to be well suited to my target audience and have done exactly what the brief asked me to do. I have stressed throughout my products how ‘copyright theft is genuine theft’ which is part of what the brief asked me to do.


On a whole I think that I have made clear links to the brief throughout my planning and research which I think shows in my products. I have made my products based purely on what the brief wanted so I think that they are well suited.
